1960-1968
少年時期時常到槟城海滨游玩。中学時期參加童子军活动,更常选择海滨附近露营。
Cheng’ favourite subjects in school were Art, Chinese, History and Geography. An active Boy Scout, he enjoyed outdoor activities and frequently camped near beaches of Penang.
1969
8月,郑浩千21岁以60多幅畫作在启蒙老师竺摩法師协助下在槟城举行首次个人畫展,由槟城藝術協會會長兼槟城中华总商会会長拿督许平等主持開幕。
画展后赴台升學,進僑生大學先修班。
At 21, Cheng held his first solo exhibition of more than 60 paintings in Penang with the assistance of his teacher, Venerable Chuk Mor. It was opened by Datuk Koh Pen Ting, who was president of both Penang Art Association and Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
Cheng enrolled for a one-year university preparatory course in Taiwan. He was the first in his family to have entered higher education.
1970
郑氏被选为班长,又被选为全校学艺组长。在校內举办个人画展,由校长詹樹千主持開幕。过后在屏東图书馆举行画展。同年认识郎靜山、张大千。完成一年先修班课程,进入国立政治大学外交系深造。
Cheng was selected as the class monitor, and president of the university’s Chinese Literature Society. He installed a solo exhibition of his artworks on campus. It was officiated by the principal of the university preparatory course, Zhan Su-chian. After that, Cheng held another solo exhibition at Ping Tung Library. In the same year, he met Lang Jingshan and Zhang Daqian. After completing the university preparatory course, Cheng entered the Department of Diplomacy of National Chengchi University to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (Diplomatic Studies).
1971
1971年向孙云生老師学画人物山水。在其老師吴公虎协助安排下,在香港圣約翰堂举行个人画展。过后拜赵少昂为师。
Cheng learnt landscape painting from Sun Yunsheng. With the assistance of his teacher Wu Gonghu, he held a solo exhibition at St John's Church in Hong Kong. After that, he met Zhao Shao’ang who took him in as a student.
課余先后 向书画篆刻家刘源沂学書法篆刻。向刘太希、梁寒操、张寿平学詩詞。
After regular classes on campus, Cheng would learn calligraphy and seal carving from Liu Yuanyi, a calligrapher, painter and seal artist. He would also learn poetry from Liu Taixi, Liang Hancao and Zhang Shouping.
1972
在大学參加模拟国际会议,代表马来西亚。
Cheng was one of the two Malaysian delegates in a mock international conference on foreign affairs, organised by his department.
1973
周末或学校假期在各地旅游。暑假在砂撈越詩巫举办个人画展。
On weekends and term breaks, Cheng enjoyed traveling to various parts of Taiwan. Cheng continued to paint during his spare time while studying full-time. He held a solo exhibition in Sibu, Sarawak (Malaysia) during summer holiday in August.
1974
該年六月毕业於国立政治大学获法学士学位。在台湾省立博物馆举行个人画展。之后回马来西亚。
In June, Cheng graduated from National Chengchi University with a Bachelor of Laws majoring in Diplomatic Studies. He then held a solo exhibition at Taiwan Provincial Museum. He returned to Malaysia after that.
1975
在泰国曼谷、清迈、文莱、新加坡举行个人画展。在清迈的画展由美国新闻处主办。
Cheng mounted solo exhibitions in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Brunei and Singapore. The one in Chiang Mai was specially invited by the United States Information Center based in Thailand.
1976
10月至11月在倫敦举行个人画展。画展后旅游英法各地及著名博物馆美術館。
Cheng had a solo exhibition in International Arts Centre in London, from October to November. After it had ended, he went sight-seeing in various parts of the UK and France, focusing much of his attention on viewing the exhibits of important museums and art galleries.
1977
在菲律賓马尼拉举行个人画展后旅游各地。赴台拜访師友。
Cheng installed a solo exhibition in Manila upon invitation by the Cheng Clan Association of the Philippines.
1978
在新山举行个人画展,拜访柔佛苏丹並贈画一幅。苏丹邀賞所藏中国画。
After holding a solo exhibition in Johor Baharu, Cheng was granted audience by Sultan Sir Ismail Al Khalidi Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Ibrahim Al-Masyhur, the 23rd Sultan of Johor. During breakfast together in the palace, Cheng presented to the sultan a painting of lion, a piece which the sultan previously saw in local newspapers and liked. They also reviewed and appreciated the sultan’s collection of Chinese paintings.
1979
同年任教於沙巴巴华中学。
In the same year, Cheng moved to Sabah (Malaysia) to teach Art at Sabah Chinese High School.
同年續任教巴华中学。
Cheng continued teaching Art in the same school until the end of the year.
